Order Now and Save 10% Burundi Bwayi Lot 11 was harvested and processed near the Rwandan border washing station overlooking Lake Tanganyika. This washing station, where coffee cherries are fully wased of pulp, dried and sorted, is part of a resurgence in thew Burundi coffee industry that stresses top quality cherries, just compensation and traceability for specialty lots. Fully washing the coffee fruit removes most of the pulp in the fermentation process, resulting in a consistent cupping profile throughout the select lot. In the past, coffee in Burundi was typically sold in bulk mixed lots called "Ngoma Mild". In 2007, however, the Burundi Aqibsiness Program (BAP) was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to assist with a pilot progeam to improve production and allow for individual lot selection. The Bwayi washing station was one of the first four stations that were given permission by the government to work directly with coffee buyers. This particular micro lot has yielded an exceptional crop that empodies the distinctive character of most Burundian coffees: balanced body, brightness, and sweet/bittersweet flavors. The coffee is light roasted to brew a cup that preserves its wide range of characteristics, from its fruit-like brightness to its substantial buttery body,
